2018 PiratePalooza Schedule

2018 PiratePalooza Schedule

This is the complete schedule for the 14th Annual PiratePalooza Pubcrawl & Pubsing, to be held on Saturday, Septembarrrr 22nd, 2018 – Captains: share it with your crews!

Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate! The first weekend of Autumn will be warm, with temperatures easing up into the low 90s by the time we challenge the Commodore on the square!! Grog and Ale and Porter and Rum can sneak up on you if you ain’t careful, so be sure to HYDRATE these next two days. That means DRINK PLENTY OF WATER!! Put some limes in it if it’s stinkwater. If you don’t have water but DO have a lime yell out “I GOT A LIME!!!”. Just hydrate, okay???!!

IMPORTANT: The only substantial changes from last year’s run will happen at our last stop, Communion. This year Communion is a football-watching destination during the day, so don’t be surprised to see a few televisions on with the game on when you arrive.  The PubSing will not begin until the Clemson vs Georgia Tech game has ended (or until Captain Joe with Revival/Communion gives us the high sign to begin) – this is estimated to be around 6:30pm.  The outside tiki bar is due some renovations and until it has been repaired that area will remain closed and has been closed off, so food all food drinks will be available from the red food truck.

Pirates are also free to go inside of Revival to order drinks from the bar but are requested to avoid attempting to shanghai the lubbers dining inside. Last call is at 9:30pm.

We will have security at the final stop, so please be on your best behavior and report anything unusual immediately.  As with Renaissance festivals and other period events we have a “no bare steel” policy – all edged weapons must remain in their scabbards at all times.

If you are not into the concert at Communion feel free to visit any number of our other destination pubs. (Twain’s is only two doors up the street and has become one of the unofficial after party destinations for attendees of PiratePalooza, so you might start there if you still have wind in your sails).

Designated Drivers

Be a Designated Driver!

We LOVE designated drivers and so should you. It’s way too easy to get a safe ride home these days, and don’t be afraid to ask for help.  Help keep an eye out for pirates that shouldn’t be driving and don’t be afraid to say something. Read more about Designated Drivers here.

Official Shirt Pickup / Shipping

Jolly Palooza Shirt

This year’s shirts will be hot off the press on Saturday night, and all of those who pre-ordered will be able to pick up their shirts at at our last stop, Communion.  People who paid for shipping should begin receiving shipping notifications beginning next week! Thanks to our sponsors for helping to defray the cost of shirt production!  Depending on our schedule we may have remainder shirts from previous Paloozas available for purchase.  A small number of shirts have been ordered to cover walk-up sales.

Parking

Decatarrrr actually has quite a good bit of parking scattered around the square (see high-resolution Decatur Parking PDF c.2016). Some lots are reserved for restaurants, some are pay lots, and some locations are free on weekends. Please do not park in the lot at our last stop, Communion, as it is valet-only and reserved for patrons of the restaurant Revival. Continue Reading

PiratePalooza 2017: A Pirates Adventure!

13th Annual PiratePalooza A Tale of Adventure!

We celebrated the 13th anniversary of PiratePalooza™ once more in the inland port of Decatarrrr. This be an account of that adventure. – Captain Drew

For the first time in years I arrived on schedule to Mister Twain’s House of Ale.  As I looked around the place all I seen was landsmen – not a sailor in sight. For a heartbeat I thought I’d gotten my schedule mixed up (again) and was about to leg it down to Henrietta’s Butt Hutt to figure out what day it was – that’s when I seen Porthos sitting up near the front.

Getting to a party first is just an awful business for me because I have to go around and introduce people I don’t even know in the first place so I usually just mumble something like “Mister Flibbinflam meet Mister Hasselflap”. If I do it right both pirates be so confounded that I have time to sneak away to Continue Reading

Donations for Communion

PiratePalooza #12 – Photo by Dean Ansley

The hidden ale-yard known as Communion  has become a favorite ending spot for our crew over the past several years. Better yet, it has allowed us to keep the One True PiratePalooza as a walking crawl from start to finish. Since this time last year the owners decided to convert Communion to an event space, so this time around I have been forced to dip into my chest to cover costs associated with Continue Reading

Captain Drew Announces Wholly Unauthorized Pub Crawl

This weekend pirates will descend upon the Georgia Renaissance Festival for their annual late spring gathering. The traditional meeting point for this assembly is the Pub on the Hilla picturesque pub serving beer, wine, cider, and ale.  This spot is one of several pubs featuring stage acts like Landloch’d and the Beastly Boys. It also features Friar Finegan, a monk who is developing a habit for leading festival-goers on pub crawls.

In an effort to assert his now-legendary pubcrawl-leading credentials, Captain Drew has made “arrangements” to lead a “pub crawl” of his own this Saturday at GARF’s Pirate Invasion. The Captain’s pub crawl will begin at the Pub on the Hill around 12:30pm, it will arrive at the Drunk Monk Pub by 1:15pm (wine and cheese MAY be available upstairs, if renovations are complete), arrive at the Brewer’s Pub by 2pm (musical act TBD by fate), then return back to the Pub on the Hill in time to join in on Continue Reading

Parking Options for PiratePalooza

Parking options for the City of Decatur, from lots to decks.

People often say to me, they say, “Captain, could you please climb down off of my table whilst I am eating my dinner,” which is a perfectly reasonable request. Other times they simply ask me for the best parking options when attending my world famous PiratePalooza™ Pubcrawl & Pubsing. Continue Reading
