Half Pint at PiratePalooza!

Half Pint

Ariana Pellayle and Rosemary Quench (better known as Becky Cormier Finch and Rivka Levin Carroll) first met at the Georgia Renaissance Festival in the Spring of 1996, and five years later they began singing together. Their first collaboration was in a band called Stone Soup, which played at the Georgia festival’s stage at the Brewer’s Pub. When Stone Soup disbanded they connected with guitarist and songwriter extraordinaire, Dolph Amick (aka ‘Wicked Pete Speakeasy’), to form Three Quarter Ale. On those occasions when Dolph is unable to Continue Reading

2nd Annual Scavenger Hunt & Booty Chase

2014_scavenger_announcement

It’s time for the Scavenger Hunt & Booty Chase, m’hearties! Updates will be posted to our Facebook page, our Google+ page and to THIS post on Captain Drew’s blog (so those of you iconoclasts able to resist social media sites will be able to follow along from your bomb shelters). The winners of this year’s scavenger hunt will be announced from the stage at the final stop on the PiratePalooza™ Pubcrawl & Pubsing on September the 20th. All entry information should be emailed to bootychase@piratepalooza.com

Updates are posted below. Check back often!

8:00pm – Monday September 8, 2014
CHALLENGE #1 – 2014 PiratePalooza™ Drink
Create and bestow a name upon a mixed drink recipe for the 2014 PiratePalooza™ Season. Our pirates know their way around the bar, so you’ll have to craft something truly delicious to impress them. Be sure to use ingredients that are widely available, as Tobbias and Isabella will recreate the drinks you submit and taste them for themselves!! They will consider their favorites for use as a signature drink at the final destination of PiratePalooza™! NOTE: This item must be submitted by 1:00pm EST on Wednesday, September 10th.

CHALLENGE #2 – Mutiny!
We need you scurvy lot to tell us a story about the time that YOUR CREW carried out a mutiny aboard The PiratePalooza™, but since we know that none of you can read or write you MUST answer this challenge via some sort of artistic manner! This challenge may be executed in ANY medium, from crayons to Photoshop to video, just don’t write it down… our judges can’t read either 🙁 (Be sure to include your scavenger hunt hosts Tobbias Short and Isabella the Cruel, as they’re pirates and are therefore easily bribed).

CHALLENGE #3 – Secret PiratePalooza™ Greeting
Invent a secret handshake, a special hand motion or similar greeting that will allow members of the PiratePalooza™ crew to secretly yet accurately identify each other in public. Demonstrate this greeting via photographs or video.

CHALLENGE #4 – PiratePalooza™ Limerick
Send us a limerick or two about your crew’s adventures at PiratePalooza!

CHALLENGE #5 – Show Our Host Bars Some Love
The good citizens of Decatarrrr are terrorized by us every Septembarrrr so we thought we should give back to the community using some of YOUR money! Go to one of the 4 restaurants along the Palooza route (look them up!) and have a drink or a meal, be sure to tip your server at least $10 (in pirate coins) and get them to pose in a sexy photo with your crew. IF you live too far away to make this happen then do something similar with a restaurant near you. Please, try not to get arrested.

CHALLENGE #6 – Show Us How You Hide Your Booty!
We want a step-by-step illustration of how and where you hide your booty!

CHALLENGE #7 – The Worst Cake of Ever
Make a REAL (no Photoshop) PiratePalooza™ cake worthy of Cakewrecks.com and send us lots of pictures of the making, the decorating, the final product, the consumption and the aftermath of the cake!

CHALLENGE #8 – Dine with the Captain!
A lot of people don’t realize that a chain of greasy, fried seafood restaurants was named after Captain Drew on a bet. Take your crew to one of these restaurants (Captain D’s) in full garb and get some pictures. Extra ½ point if you get other customers to give Captain Drew feedback about his restaurant. See a cardiologist afterward.

CHALLENGE #9 – The Commodore Song
Write a sea shanty about the ghost of Commodore Stephen Decatur versus the Captain Drew and/or the crew of PiratePalooza™. The winning entry will be turned into a real song by Ed and Steve of Landloch’d and performed during the award ceremony at the Harbour House Pub! NOTE: This item must be submitted by 1:00pm EST on Friday, September 12th.

CHALLENGE #10 – Tell Us YOUR Pirate History
Tell us about YOUR crew, from your (pirate) names to what you’re best known for!

CHALLENGE #11 – Make YOUR Crew’s Flag!!
The PiratePalooza™ flag is known and feared throughout the galaxy, but what about YOUR crew’s flag? PiratePalooza™ is like a Cub Scout Jamboree for pirates, and we’d love to see ALL of the crews bring their flags to PiratePalooza™.

CHALLENGE #12 – The PiratePalooza PiĂąata
Make a piñata of something to do with PiratePalooza™ then photograph/video yourselves busting it open!! No need to bring your piñata to PiratePalooza™, we won’t have the time or the energy to bust it or clean it up!

CHALLENGE #13 – Selfie with the Captain!
Send us a selfie of one (or all) of your crew WITH or AS Captain Crunch! Be creative!

CHALLENGE #14 – Famous People In (or near) a PiratePalooza T-Shirt
Do you know anyone famous? Can you get them to pose for a picture with (or in) a PiratePalooza™ t-shirt?

BONUS #1 – Surprise us!!
Maybe you’re really having a hard time getting your cake to bake or convincing your Governor to put on a PiratePalooza™ t-shirt. Perhaps you’re not good at rhyming or allergic to the smell of fried fish. This option is for you: do something that’s so ingenious we will be forced to give you extra points!

It Was A PiratePalooza™ Miracle

2013_palooza_review_000

This past Saturday we celebrated the 9th edition of the PiratePalooza™ Pubcrawl and Pubsing by invading the City of Decatarrrr and challenging the ghost of Commodore Stephen Decatur yet again (it’s a pirate tradition). As the clock ticked out the final 24 hours leading to the invasion I had to accept the hard truth that the Curse of the Rumbullion had come true and that we were more than likely to spend the entire day in and out of torrential rainstorms and that the concert at the end of the day was going to be Continue Reading

Sailing Into the Storm (revised)

Curse_Rumbullion_Storm

A body of supernatural evidence continues to pile up around Captain Drew’s annual PiratePalooza™ Pubcrawl & Pubsing, the theme for which was selected months ago as “The Curse of the Rumbullion”. With less than 24 hours left to go before the start of this year’s invasion of Decatarrrr a weather system named “Rumbullion” is heading for Decatarrrr like the wrath of God.

But, just as there’s no crying in baseball, there’s no skipping PiratePalooza™ on account of scattered thunderstorms. Pirates and water go together just like breasts mashed together in corsets, so don’t be left wondering if anyone will be going to this year’s 9th Annual PiratePalooza™ Pubcrawl & Pubsing, it’s on like Donkey Kong, yo (ho ho). We’ve attacked Decatarrrr in the midst of a stalled tropical depression in the past and we’ll do it again, with our without you – be you pirates or be you pretenders? We shall find out!!

Our pubcrawl route is the same as it has been for the past several years: Twain’s at 1:30pm, The Brick Store @ 2:45pm, the traditional running of the pirates in the Virginia Reel happens in the MARTA plaza @ 4:30pm then on to Mac McGee’s @ 5:00pm. The crew over at Mac McGee’s is really getting into the spirit this year by offering a uniquely renaissance festival-style food item “Legge of Foule Beaste” (turkey legs) and they’ll be cracking open a cask of Red Brick Brewery’s Dog Days Ale to fill your mug for only $4 a pour!

Don’t miss the whole schedule at: http://www.piratepalooza.com/palooza

Around 6pm we’ll begin invading the Harbour Bar & Fish House for our concert. The city of Decatarrrr has been digging a giant hole outside of the restaurant this year so the driveway on Church Street is blocked – instead look for a sign on Trinity, just behind Twain’s, pointing down a back lane. If that lot is full there are plenty of other places in Decatur you might try.

roadwork_harbour_bar_001a

Everyone who attends PiratePalooza™ wants the latest T-shirt, so look for the table outside the restaurant beginning around 6pm and get yours before we sell out (supplies are TRULY limited!). If you pre-ordered your 2013 shirt (like a smart little pirate) be sure to come by and pick it up and get your photo with your shiny PiratePalooza™ package! We’ll also have our entire stock of shirts from previous years available AND we’re running a special for the first time ever: 2 shirts for $20 (this only applies to the shirts from 2005 to 2011), a REALLY great way to build up your collection of PaloozaGear™!! Limited quantities of our glow-in-the-dark shirts from 2012 and 2013 are priced at $20 each – inquire about your size with our fine shirt crew! We accept credit card sales too, so don’t be shy!!

IN THE EVENT of rain the restaurant will shut down the backyard stage area (for the safety of its staff and patrons) and we’ll be moved inside the building to continue the concert. Once we reach capacity inside the Harbour Bar we’ll send expeditions roving back toward Mac McGee’s and the square, to take over the entire city (from the comfort of dry alehouses). This year’s event is going to be exciting – how will it all turn out?? Nobody knows, not even your old Captain Drew!!

Captain Drew Announces New Annual Scavenger Hunt

2013_piratepalooza_scavenger_hunt_002

A little less than four hours ago Captain Drew held his latest press conference, this time at Lenox Square Mall in Buckhead, a tony in-town Atlanta neighborhood known for upscale businesses and “wenches what has had a lot of work done in their bosom area”. Unlike his previous press conferences, the Captain avoided making a public spectacle by accidentally locking himself in a disused maintenance corridor behind the Victoria’s Secret store. According to the store’s manager, Shasta Glamowitz, the previous sentence may in fact be entirely inaccurate. “That guy carved a peephole in the Continue Reading

9th Annual PiratePalooza™ T-shirt Revealed

2013_curse_001d

In yet another hastily-convened press conference, this morning Captain Drew unveiled to an astonished group of Japanese tourists the design for the 9th Annual PiratePalooza™ Pubcrawl & Pubsing: “The Curse of the Rumbullion” – a throwback to the classic pirate movies from the Golden Age of Hollywood. After a confusing exchange over the correct pronunciation (and meaning of) the word “Rumbullion” the Captain clambered atop a nearby Continue Reading

Announcing PiratePalooza™ 2013

So pleased was I over the success of last week’s 8th Annual PiratePalooza™ Pubcrawl and Pubsing that I’m skipping my traditional unplanned press conference a few months before the event and am instead giving you an entire year to plan for the invasion of Decatarrrr on the 21st of Septembarrrr, 2013. Carve that date into your wooden leg, Jim m’lad, as you won’t want to miss this jolly good time. If you did somehow miss this year’s PiratePalooza™ (the original and official) take a gawp at more than 375 pirate-filled engravings of our sack of the sea port of Decatur ‘pon the Ponce – and if you values your hide you’ll be sure to join our Facebook page and read the Captain’s (b)Log leading up to the event! Now go and mend some sails or something. And by all means, spread the word.

Official PiratePalooza™ 2012 Photos are Up!

Thanks to one of our great sponsors, The Guy Behind the Camera, we have uploaded more than 375 terrific photographs (follow this link) documenting this past Saturday’s adventures around the port city of Decatarrrr in our search for Captain Drew’s missing treasure map! See if you can find photos of you and your traitorous pirate pals quaffing ale and dancing the reel! Share them with your friends and be sure to share the link to the gallery. Find a few and have them printed out in high quality to decorate your own ship’s cabin!

Breaking: Captain Vows to Find Lost Map

In what may be the pirate news story of the week, Captain Drew, famed space pirate and inventor of the rPlank™ has announced his intentions to find a “very valuable treasure map” that he claims was lost during his last laundry day.

“Yes, Brian, I am very concerned and hope to find this map very quickly as it shows where I have hidden all my treasure,” said the Captain to our reporter Brie Nicholls, who attended the Captain’s hastily called announcement in a popular doughnut shop along Ponce De Leon Street in Atlanta late Saturday morning.

“It be my intention, Brian, to determine WHERE I left my map and then to pick it UP again and put it into my breeches POCKET. My, you certainly have a large chest for a cabin boy, Brian. Do you mind if I Continue Reading
