How To Take The Fall

How to Take the Fall

This past weekend PiratePalooza alumna Juliana Finch held a CD release party at the Red Light Cafe in Midtown Atlanta for the debut of her newest album “How To Take The Fall” [now available at CDBaby.com]. See how our guest music reviewer, renowned fancypants Lieutenant Lewellyn “Farnsy” Middleworth of the Queen’s Own Music Brigade, takes the fall with a satisfying bite from those most tempting of apples: love, and Juliana Finch. Album review after the break!

Press Release: PiratePalooza 2007

All right you scurvy lot, listen up! You have exactly three months to prepare for PiratePalooza 3! This year’s Palooza will be on Saturday, September 15th in Decatur, Georgia. That means you have three months to sharpen your swords. Three months to gather your gold. Three months to memorize your favorite songs and three months to work on your sea shanties. I want you lasses to know that I’ll be judging the presentation of your corsettes this time around, and while there’s no official “trophy” as yet you should nonetheless begin working on your posture as I might just award you the Captain’s Cup (which is not uncoincidentally shaped like me own cupped hand). Remember, it’s not the size of the ship that matters lassies, it’s how she handles the swells. And speaking of “swell”, I have some fairly swell news to deliver you in regard to who we’ll have playing the Pub Sing this year so keep reading!!

Intertwined

In Captain Drew’s brief but astonishing career no finer band has crossed the dusty boards of the Brewer’s Pub stage than a trio of traveling minstrels what go by the name of “Three Quarter Ale“. The musical alchemy of Ariana Pellayle, Rosemary Quench and Wicked Pete Speakeasy delivers Renalicious gold, set after set, week after week, festival after festival. And once, once in a very blue moon, they produce a new album. Don’t look now, but there be a blue moon shining on a fantastic new album what be called “Intertwined”. Order the well-produced CD from CD Baby or a virtual copy from iTunes so you can put it on your rPod today! Continue Reading

Wine, Woman & Song @ Georgia Renfest!

Aye!! It be true, the group Wine, Woman and Song will return to the Georgia Renaissance Festival’s Brewer’s Pub for a special weekend appearance this Saturday and Sunday, May 19th and 20th. Longtime favorites at the Renaissance Festival, the group’s deep library of songs, terrific harmonies and commanding stage presence paved the way for many of the music groups who play the Georgia Festival today. Led by the buxom Pubmistress Naughty Nellie Peachbottom, WW&S also enjoys the vocal talents of the esteemed tights-wearing Concord Grapellwyn and the instrumental wizardry of Renwick Sangster. Whatever it takes to attend, don’t miss this limited appearance, you won’t be disappointed!!

Can Our Band Play At PiratePalooza?

From time to time Captain Drew receives press kits from bands that be interested in playing at the PiratePalooza. While your old pirate pal Captain Drew is happy that so many talented people want to join our annual pillage, there is a sort of theme to our event, namely PIRATES. So: if you be a “progressive acoustic rock band from Colorado”, the “quintessential rockabilly experience from Atlantic City” or the “last word in contemporary gospel rap” you should consider the reaction you might receive from a ship full of drunken pirates BEFORE interrupting Captain Drew’s important rum-tasting business with an electronic message. Word UP.

Joni Minstrel Kicks the King

This weekend one of my crew “intercepted” a shipment of Village Protest Singer Joni Minstrel’s brand new album titled “Joni Minstrel Kicks the King”. We first used them as signal mirrors, then we gave ’em a go as dinner plates but they leaked in the middle. Finally, we got tired and put one into our cursed music box and pressed PLAY.

Juliana Finch to Join Palooza

‘Tis been awhile but we’ve slept off our rum and remembered that we’ve a parrrrrty ta run in little more than a month so we’ve wiped the schmutz off’n our little box o’ blinkin’ lights and are postin’ this here message to bring you all ’round hard.

We’ve just found out that Good Cap’n Mal will be there but a short time the night o’ the Palooza due to the fact that he’s agreed to appear in some sort o’ stage performance called Rocky Quarry Pickup Snow…. errrr, somethin’ like that. He says that he’ll be playin’ with part o’ Franklin’s Weenie. We’re desperately hoping that we’ve not heard that correctly.

As a result of Cap’n Mal’s sudden rise to glorious thespianism, his singing group “The Brogues” will be steppings aside to allow the much talented and much lovelier Juliana Finch take the stage at the Palooza proper. Boys, bring yer best eyepatches!
