Christmas with the Bards!

Posted in Minstrels

Agents of musical chaos, The Barehead Bards, have released a new album for the holidays called “Christmas with the Bards”.

The Barehead Bards release new album "Christmas with the Bards"

This new album features Tilly and Seamus at their most sober, trying their best to record coherent Christmas classics (which sound suspiciously like barely disguised versions of renfaire songs the two musical miscreants already sing).

According to the band’s spokesminstrel, Tilly:

I bet you thought it wouldn’t happen. I bet you heard us joking about making a Christmas album, and I bet you said “they never follow through. They’ve broken my heart before with talk of albums and recording. I won’t fall for it this time. You won’t hurt me again.”

Well you were WRONG. This is the most highly polished album we’ve ever released. No roosters crowing. No audio ripped from a video we made going down the interstate. Just an iPhone, a plastic shoe box, and a dream. A ridiculously silly dream that has literally invaded our minds since its inception on the last day of the Fall Fling. It is insanely silly. It was done in one take last night. I left in all the giggles at the ends of each song. Seamus even drove BACK to Tilly’s house this afternoon to re-record one of the songs because it didn’t save. It was THAT important. All that for YOU, our fans and friends.

So Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and may God continue to bless each and every one of you.

****edit to add: I just realized that I left the ENTIRE TAKE for Whiskey the Red Nosed Reindeer. I’m not going to fix it.****

***second edit: I fixed it.***

Unique to this album is the ability of Seamus and Tilly to sing the same song at two different tempos. The song ‘O Come O Come O Danny Boy’ features a lush piano accompaniment, although the lush playing the piano is not credited many suspect that it is Tilly due to the lack of Seamus’ famous flourishes

The track listing for this album:

  • Rambles of Frosty
  • Silver Rose
  • Wild Rover in a Manger
  • Saint Brendan’s Noel
  • Whisky the Red Nosed Reindeer
  • Whistlin’ Rover on the Housetop
  • Field of Jingle Bells
  • O Come O Come O Danny Boy
  • Days of Bogmas
  • Blue Velvet Band

At the time of publication for this article the band had yet to release liner notes for the album, largely due to their profound illiteracy. A note tucked into the album cover reads “No potatoes were misused in the production of this musical thing” but there is no proof of this.

Ba-da-da-da!
