Disney Announces Pirates-themed MMORPG

Swing hard about, all o’ you WoW-loving, Second Life-afflicted privateering gamers: Disney has heard your psychographic growl and has announced a Spring rollout of a Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG) they’re calling “Pirates of the Caribbean Online”. Interested? Read on…

First announced at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Las Vegas in June of 2006, the game has been keenly anticipated by the legion of gaming fans inspired to piracy by the first two PotC movies. The developer notes for the the game and the regular updates on progress seem to ensure that the game will have a strong following when introduced later this year, most likely near the release of the third installment in the PotC series starring that guy you’re all trying to act like.

According to Disney’s Online Newsroom:

The game is based on the popular film franchise and will allow players to experience the world captured on screen. In the game, players will interact with Jack Sparrow, Will Turner, Elizabeth Swann and other characters made popular in the movie franchise, as they embark on exciting quests in search of treasure and notoriety.

Popular gaming website GameSpot.com is reporting that Disney Online has announced that there will be tiers of service, allowing those of you on a budget to play the game in exchange for contextual advertising.
