Huge 2017 PiratePalooza Musical Lineup

A collage of photos showing the musical acts set to appear at the 2017 PiratePalooza

This morning we are pleased to announce our amazing list of musical acts for the 13th Annual PiratePalooza Pubcrawl & Pubsing – we’ll be welcoming back old friends like the playful Tenpenny Travelers and rollicking Toucan Dubh, and we’ll sing along to our friends Esteban (of Landloch’d) and Israel Hand (of Pogue Mahone).  Old favorites like Naughty Nellie Peachbottom and Renwick Sangster of Wine, Woman & Song will once again grace our stage (and our pub sing), while fresher acts like the Barehead Bards will join in to learn the ways of the sea. For the first time ever we will have Shenanigans lend their mighty sound to the Palooza, and we’ll welcome back the beloved musical trio of Ariana Pellayle, Rosemary Quench, and Wicked Pete Speakeasy, better known as Three Quarter Ale!

Do you have goosebumps?

We have goosebumps!

The 10 Best Ways to Make People Like You

Mister Banana swears allegiance to Captain Drew, 2013 - image by Dean Ansley, Guy Behind the Camera

Like many of you, I feel that my friends would be more interesting if they liked the exact same things that I like. Toward that end I have prepared ten easy techniques you can use to convince them to like your stuff, collected from the many stories I have heard from my crew and from my own voluminous record of encounters with the constables. I take great reward in sharing these tips with you, as they will ultimately make you more like me in the long run. For this example I will use a movie as the thing I want my friends to like, but it could be anything from Continue Reading

It’s all they talk about. There’s a few things that really get them really really cranked up: things like Death Pool, that fancy lad John Barleyman in his super-short Continue Reading

13th Annual PiratePalooza™ Shirts Announced

The design for the 2017 PiratePalooza™ Pubcrawl & Pubsing was announced this morning at a small press conference in a dusty median in the middle of Andrew Young International Boulevard, near Atlanta’s new Mercedes Benz stadium. Captain Drew announced to a group of traveling vagabonds that this year’s shirt theme was “Seize the High Seas” and “Something Something About Seaweed” and “Look Matey, Ships Be Cool So Get Off My Back” and “Lester, If You Don’t Let Go Of My Piece Of Chicken Right Now I Shall Be Forced To Strike You In The Nose”.

While video of this press conference is sadly unavailable, Captain Drew’s staff inform us that the website is in fact taking orders now (ORDER YOUR SHIRT TODAY) and stressed that the only way to be guaranteed of getting a shirt is to pre-order them – very few pieces of additional stock will be Continue Reading

The Atlanta Radio Theatre Company (ARTC) has announced a Kickstarter campaign for the production of their latest project “Treasure Island”.    ARTC has been entertaining audiences with their live radio-style performances since 1984 and can be seen performing to large crowds at many of the larger science fiction and fantasy conventions around Continue Reading

Maui Shocks Festival Crowd

There’s an unofficial tradition among the cast at the Georgia Renaissance Festival that Memorial Day is observed as a “prank day” for tweaking costumes, characters, storylines, and songs ever so slightly as to entertain each other in order to survive the final leg of a brutal 3-day run. These minor alterations usually go unnoticed by patrons of the festival, but they provide the cast with tremendous entertainment, a welcome distraction from the scorching heat, dusty streets, and occasional deluge and lightning storm.  In my opinion the undisputed “winner” of GARF’s 2017 Prank Day was Estaban Diego de Castille who showed up as Continue Reading

A Letter from Mark

This past Saturday was the first of a 2-day pirate invasion of the Georgia Renaissance Festival, and I must admit that I had a great time wandering around the old place again. We started the day at the front door where some lady in purple yelled at everybody a long time before letting us all in.  I think she did that as a distraction so we didn’t notice all them boobs everywhere, but man I noticed.  After the lady finished yelling at us they opened the door so we could get in and once Continue Reading

Captain Drew Announces Wholly Unauthorized Pub Crawl

This weekend pirates will descend upon the Georgia Renaissance Festival for their annual late spring gathering. The traditional meeting point for this assembly is the Pub on the Hilla picturesque pub serving beer, wine, cider, and ale.  This spot is one of several pubs featuring stage acts like Landloch’d and the Beastly Boys. It also features Friar Finegan, a monk who is developing a habit for leading festival-goers on pub crawls.

In an effort to assert his now-legendary pubcrawl-leading credentials, Captain Drew has made “arrangements” to lead a “pub crawl” of his own this Saturday at GARF’s Pirate Invasion. The Captain’s pub crawl will begin at the Pub on the Hill around 12:30pm, it will arrive at the Drunk Monk Pub by 1:15pm (wine and cheese MAY be available upstairs, if renovations are complete), arrive at the Brewer’s Pub by 2pm (musical act TBD by fate), then return back to the Pub on the Hill in time to join in on Continue Reading
